Studies have shown that novel Coronavirus infected patients are most contagious when they initially feel unwell

On 9 June, a WORLD Health Organization expert said on 9 June that studies have shown that novel Coronavirus infected patients are most contagious when they first feel ill.

These experts say that this characteristic makes it very difficult to control viral transmission from novel Coronavirus, but virus transmission can be controlled by rigorous testing and social distancing.
Novel Coronavirus will cause COVID-19.

Maria Van Kerkhoff, a WHO epidemiologist and the organization’s leading expert on the COVID-19 pandemic, said in a live broadcast on social media: “Based on the very limited information we have so far, it seems that people have more virus in their bodies at or around the time of symptoms, which is very early.”

Preliminary studies in Germany and the United States have shown that people with mild illness can be contagious for up to eight or nine days, Dr. Van Kerkhoff said, and “people with more severe illness can be contagious for much longer.”
